Program Information
"Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction."
-- John C. Crosby
The mission of the Faculty Mentoring program is to assist new faculty in their acclimation to the University and their faculty roles, and to support them in their effort to attain tenure at Northeastern University. Implemented in 2000 by the Office of the Provost, this University-wide mentoring program has resulted in each of the six colleges implementing its own internal faculty mentoring guidelines. Faculty new to academia and faculty new to Northeastern University must learn to navigate a wide range of challenges from teaching to research to the University culture. Mentors and tenure track faculty are encouraged to meet informally several times throughout the year. Workshops and programs are also offered on topics such as obtaining research funding, effective teaching, and the tenure consideration process.
